Wolverine oldtimers top Portage Lake, 12-4

KEARSARGE — Wolverine’s oldtimers made it two wins in a row with a 12-4 thumping of Portage Lake Sunday at the American Legion Field.

Wolverine scored four times in the first inning off Portage Lake starter Jeff Pollard and added two more runs in the second for a 6-0 margin.

The northend team pushed the margin to 12-0 after five innings before Portage Lake tallied all of its runs in the top of the sixth frame.

“They jumped on us right away,” Portage Lake manager Joe Romano said. “And (Steve) Stukel made it stand up, just like last week.”

Wolverine had a scored 9-0 win last week in Stanton snap a nine-game losing streak in the long series between the two old rivals.

Greg and Glen Patrick had two hits each as did Dave Yeo and John “Hoot” Gibson for Wolverine.

Tom Figures and Pollard managed two hits apiece for the losers, who managed just seven off Stukel.

Wolverine picked up 10 hits in the game.

The series stands at 33-24 in favor of Portage Lake.
