HANCOCK — Calumet girls basketball standout Ellie Djerf is transferring from Northern Michigan to play basketball at Finlandia.
Djerf, a 2021 Calumet High School graduate, scored more than 1,000 points as a Copper King and led the team to a 20-1 record and a MHSAA Division 3 state semifinal appearance. She was named West PAC’s Player of the Year, with a first-team conference selection and an All-U.P. Dream Team and AP All-State first team selections.
Finlandia announced the news Thursday, saying Djerf is eligible to play “right away.” Djerf was not a student-athlete at NMU.
“I’m so excited to have Elli joining our program,” Finlandia head coach Mariah La-Pointe-Dunham. “I followed her career in high school and she is a special player that can impact a team instantly. We are very excited to have her as a Finlandia Lion.”
Finlandia visits UW-Superior at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29.
