HOUHGTON — Head Coach Steve Olson and the Michigan Tech football program announced the 2017 schedule. The upcoming season will feature some familiar opponents and new additions due to the realignment of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Tech’s schedule will expand to 11 games this season and will feature two nonconference battles before jumping into GLIAC competition. The Huskies will open the year at home on Sherman Field Thursday night Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. against Truman State University for what will be the first of six home games this year. Tech will then travel to Hillsdale which is now a nonconference game in Week 2 of the season.

The other five home games for the Huskies this year will have Grand Valley State (Sept. 16), Northern Michigan (Sept. 30), Wayne State (Oct. 21), Davenport (Oct. 28), and Ferris State (Nov. 11) coming to Houghton. The annual Homecoming game is scheduled for Week 8 against Wayne State.

The 2017 GLIAC road schedule will take Michigan Tech to Saginaw Valley State (Sept. 23), Northwood University (Oct. 7), Ashland University (Oct. 14), and Tiffin University (Nov. 4). Nine of the eleven opponents awaiting the Huskies had winning percentages of .500 or more a season ago.

Michigan Tech wrapped up the 2016 season 4-6, but had huge wins over Ashland and another Miner’s Cup victory in overtime at Northern Michigan. The Huskies are now making preparations for the 2017 campaign under first year Head Coach Steve Olson as Spring Practice kicks off this week.

This year’s Spring Game is scheduled for Saturday April 15th at 1 p.m. In addition, The Michigan Tech football program will be hosting Little Huskies Football camp on both April the 8th and 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. The camps are for boys and girls currently in grades 4-6 with both offensive and defensive skills stations.
