Auto Pro Glass and Tire blasts way into CCWSL championship

Auto Pro Glass and Tire tallies 15 hits in 16-7 win over Mattila Rock and Dock

LAKE LINDEN — Thanks to a lethal lineup that combined for 15 hits, Auto Pro Glass and Tire earned a spot in the Copper Country Women’s Fastpitch championship game.

They also had some help from Mattila Rock and Dock.

Auto Pro jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two innings, thanks in large part to six Rock and Dock errors before securing a 16-7 win Wednesday at the Boneyard in the league’s tournament semifinals.

“We really started off right with our batting and hits,” Auto Pro’s Kyleigh Audette said. “We had a really phenomenal game. I’ve never seen our players play as good as we did tonight.”

The same could not be said for Rock and Dock, who finished with 10 errors that included misplayed grounders, overthrows and missed fly balls.

“It was surprising; I did not expect that,” Rock and Dock head coach Diane Mattila said of her team’s mistakes.

Kenzie Brunet led Auto Pro with four hits, including three RBIs. Kirstyn Codere led the winners with four RBIs on two hits and drove in two of those runs on a double to give her team a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Codere added her third and fourth RBIs in the second inning on a single to make it 10-0 before Julia Hendrickson scored on a fielder’s choice for an 11-0 advantage.

After Auto Pro’s scoring onslaught, a mercy after five innings seemed all but assured.

But Rock and Dock rallied, scoring the game’s next seven runs. The comeback began when Mel Baker connected for a two-run RBI single with the bases loaded before eventually coming across to score on a passed ball to trim the deficit to 11-4.

Sandwiched between two unearned runs via Auto Pro errors, Susan Mattila launched a line drive for an RBI single to left centerfield. Heading into the bottom of the fifth, Rock and Dock rallied to cut Auto Pro’s lead to 11-7.

“We were worried, but I guess we had it in our heads that we were going to win,” Audette said of Rock and Dock’s rally.

Auto Pro’s bats came alive one final time to diffuse Rock and Dock’s comeback, as Brunet drove in two and eventually scored on a Rock and Dock error, while Mandy Perault and Morgan Gast each had RBI singles to give their team a 16-7 lead.

Sarah Audette started the game on the mound for the winners and allowed three runs on two hits and five walks while striking out two over three innings. Morgan Peters finished the last four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks while finishing with four strikeouts.

Baker recorded 10 strikeouts on the mound for Rock and Dock.

Auto Pro will play Calumet Golf Club-Loading Zone in the championship game; the date is yet to be determined, with many of the Calumet players already scheduled to play in a travel ball tournament on Friday. The title game could possibly take place today at 7 p.m. at the Boneyard if the teams can come to an agreement.

“It’s really awesome. We’ve been looking forward to the championship game, and we’re really hoping to win,” Audette said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
