Lakes come in 2nd at Michigan-Wisconsin Invite

IRONWOOD — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes took second at the Michigan-Wisconsin Invite Saturday in Ironwood.

LL-H fell to Mercer (23-25, 8-25) in the championship match.

“Good day overall, but disappointing we weren’t able to defend our title from last year,” LL-H head coach Maureen Schick said.

LL-H (18-8-3) topped Butternut (25-8, 25-9), Wakefield-Marenisco (25-13, 25-16), South Shore (25-15, 25-20) and Drummond (25-23, 25-12) but lost to Ironwood (18-25, 16-25).

The Drummond victory forced a three-way tie with Ironwood and Drummond. Based on point differentials, LL-H won the tiebreaker to finish first in its pool.

Mariah Willmer led LL-H with 33 kills, while Maija Codere and Erin Seppala each had 31 kills. Laura Lyons recorded 83 assists and 11 kills.

Defensively, Joslynn Perala led the way with 70 digs, and Seppala and MacKenzie LePage each had 35 digs.

LL-H’s Tuesday match with Watersmeet is postponed, so the Lakes will next be in action at home Thursday against Baraga.
