Heise named GLIAC North Player of the Week

David Archambeau/Daily Mining Gazette Michigan Tech’s Brenna Heise was named the GLIAC North Player of the Week on Monday.

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech senior guard Brenna Heise has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week after helping guide the Huskies to a pair of wins over the University of Minnesota Duluth and Concordia St. Paul. It’s the third week in a row that a Tech player has earned the honors with senior Lindsay Winter being chosen the previous two weeks.

Heise, who hails from New London, Wisconsin, had a great week for the Huskies, helping lead Tech to a 2-1 record while boasting the team’s overall mark to 6-1. Heise averaged 22.7 points per game and tied a single-game school record for the most points with 37 against Augustana (S.D.) Her point total equaled the Tech school record of 37 which was set by Sam Hoyt against Northwood on Feb. 25, 2012. She is also the first Tech player to score 30 or more points in a game since Kylie Moxley accomplished the feat with 34 on Feb. 18, 2016 against Northwood.

On the season, Heise is averaging 13.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

The Huskies return home on Thursday night for their first GLIAC game of the season against Saginaw Valley State at 5:30 p.m. Tech will then host Northwood on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the SDC Gymnasium.
