TAPIOLA – Chassell and Tapiola came up with wins on the final night of the Over 50 Softball League.

The league playoffs will begin Monday in Tapiola. League champ Houghton and Tapiola meet at 6:15 p.m., while Chassell and South Range clash at 7:30.

Chassell scored a 14-11 win over Thursday night behind three hits by Charlie Kemppainen and Nick Lindemann.

Jed Pollard homered among two hits for Chassell, while Jerry Fish, Jay LeClaire, Nick Kosdyski, Gordy Sedar and winning pitcher Steve Giddings all had two raps.

Brien Ricci, Dick Franti and Stan Murtomaki notched three hits each for Range.

In the second game, Tapiola won its second game in a row with a 22-3 victory over Houghton.

Scott Hall cracked five hits for the victors, while Steve Balla added four more. John Kinnunen chipped in three more safeties and Jim Oikarinen had two.

Houghton’s Rick Niemi, Jim Perrin and Dave Usitalo each had two hits.

Len Juntunen was the winning pitcher, Steve Dunstan took the loss.
