Chassell earns another shot at Houghton

TAPIOLA — Chassell held off a rallying South Range team Thursday night to gain the championship series of the Over 50 Softball League playoffs.

With a 9-6 lead going into the seventh inning, Chassell pitcher Steve Giddings checked the losers on two runs for the final 9-8 score.

Charlie Kemppainen, Pat Duguay and Kevin Tormala led the winners with three hits each.

Nick Lindemann, Jerry Fish, Giddings and Jed Pollard added two raps.

South Range received two hits each from losing hurler Mike Cook, Glenn Mitchell, Rory Duquette, Mark Miller and Joe Rossi. Todd Huotari was the losing chucker.

Chassell meets Houghton at 6 p.m. Thursday and will have to win two games to earn the title, while Houghton will need only one win to clinch.
