Jeffers falls to Speedboys, 64-44

BESSEMER — Despite holding the host Bessemer Speedboys to just 24 points through the second and third quarters, the visiting Jeffers Jets could not find an answer for Cade Mazzum. The senior notched 22 points to lead the Speedboys to the win.

The Jets scored 26 of their 44 points in the second half.

“If we can put together a full four quarters of basketball, then we can win games,” said Jet coach Trent Keteri. “We can’t continue to make comebacks in the second half.

“Their senior, Cade Mazzum, had a great night. He hit his shots all night and thus made it difficult to complete the comeback. Hats off to him.”

The Jets did get 15 points from Austin Kinnunen and 11 more from Christian Hocking in the contest.

“Down roughly 18 at half, we cut the lead to seven at one point,” said Keteri. “Christian Hocking and Austin Kinnunen stepped up to help the team. My starting freshman broke his finger in practice this weekend and so we were one guy short.”
