HANCOCK — Mike O’Donnell had a hunch that a veteran St. Scholastica Saints men’s basketball team might give his Finlandia Lions a tough time Wednesday.

He was right in his hunch as the Saints handed the Lions an 89-66 defeat.

“They had experience and they ran their offense very well,” O’Donnell said after his team’s 11th straight defeat. “We had trouble getting into ours.”

The Wisconsin squad knocked down 13 of 43 three-point attempts.

“They shot very well from three-point territory,” O’Donnell said. “That gave them a lead early in the game and we never really recovered.”

Down 36-26 at the half, the locals were unable to get anything going in the second portion of the game.

A rare off-night by freshman forward Jaden Janke did not help the Finlandia cause, either. Janke got into early foul trouble and ended up with two points.

Dylan Underwood paced the Lions with 17 points and Tyler Browner put in 14 more.

Jamal Deshields-Beard netted 11, while Austin Carlson had eight points and 10 rebounds.

“I thought Tyler Browner probably had his best floor game,” O’Donnell said.

Leading the way for SSC was Brandon Newman with 17 points. Nate Weets tossed in 15 more

FU will now hit the road, traveling to UW-Superior on Monday.
