K-Bear 102 defeats REL Inc., 18-3

LAURIUM — Owen Peterson earned the win for KBear 102.3 pitching three innings and giving up two runs while striking out eight in a four-inning game. Niiko Johnson pitched the final inning at Gipp Field and struck out two. Ryder Hyrkas took the loss for REL, but struck out five in the process.

Peterson helped himself at the plate as he came a single shy of the cycle, walking in a run in his fourth trip to the plate with the bases loaded. His three hits included a two-run double, a triple and a grand slam. He drove in seven runs and scored three.

Clara Isaacson, Izaak Englund and Cannon Wilks also scored three runs each for KBear. Max Spelich scored twice and belted an RBI triple. Max Harju also ripped an RBI triple.

Henry Johnson had a double and two RBI, his brother Orrin reached all three times up, hit by pitches twice and hustling out an infield single.

REL’s John Kero had two hits and an RBI. Easton Abramson scored two runs.

The playoffs start next week for both teams as they do for the rest of the minor league teams in the Keweenaw Little League.
