LAURIUM — Three championship games were played at the Gipp Fields on Saturday.

In the Keweenaw Little League Majors final, Keweenaw Lions defeated Royale Inc. 7-2. Lyle Lasanen earned the win pitching for the Lions.

In the machine pitch championship, Calumet Electronics won a close battle with Lassila Insurance 5-2 with extra innings needed to decide the contest.

In the Minors final, it was a pitcher’s duel. Tyler Halonen pitched 5 1/3 innings of one hit shutout baseball and his cousin, Joseph Halonen, preserved the win getting the last two outs and earning the save for Superior Polymer. Halonen struck out 15 KBear batters and Joseph struck out the last two.

KBear was only able to put two balls in play, one a 1-3 ground out, and the other a first inning single from Max Harju who had their only hit and was their only baserunner, stealing second but getting left there.

The pitching and defense was solid on both sides as Henry Johnson pitched the complete game for KBear and allowed only one run. He struck out ten Superior Polymer batters.

Superior Polymer had four hits and one walk, making for a game with only six baserunners in the contest between the two teams.

The most important one was Sawyer Berg who tripled with two outs in the third. Tyler Halonen then came up big at the plate, driving in Berg as the games lone run. Halonen was 2-for-2 batting, he had tripled in the first inning but was stranded at third.

The game lasted approximately 50 minutes.
