College Hockey: Bemidji State tops Tech, 4-1

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State’s special times doomed No. 19 Michigan Tech in a 4-1 loss on Friday.

The Huskies (13-11-2, 8-8-1 WCHA) gave up short-handed and power-play goals and were out-shot 33-25.

Huskies sophomore Alec Broetzman spoiled Zach Driscoll’s shutout by scoring his 11th goal of the season late in the third period on the power play. The goal came with 1:04 in the game and was assisted by Alex Smith and Colin Swoyer.

Blake Pietila started in goal for Michigan Tech and played 26 minutes before giving up his third goal in the second period before being relieved by Matt Jurusik. Pietila made 17 saves and Jurusik made 12 saves the rest of the night.

The Huskies dropped to 1-3-1 in January after going 9-2-1 in the final 12 games of 2019. Michigan Tech has been outscored 15-11 in the five games this month.

Michigan Tech plays Bemidji State at 7:07 p.m. EST Saturday.
