Roundup: Cardinals spill Dollar Bay; Chassell wins

DOLLAR BAY — Despite leading after one quarter and having a strong start to the second half, the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts girls basketball team ultimately fell to the Wakefield-Marenisco Cardinals, 51-44, at home Friday night.

The Blue Bolts got six points out of Ashlea Datto to open the game strong. Datto finished with a team-high 13 points, including a three in the third quarter.

Kendra Kangas also drained a three in the opening eight minutes of play. By the time the buzzer sounded, Dollar Bay led 14-12.

In the second quarter, the Cardinals stormed back with 17 points.

Looking to bounce back in the third, the Blue Bolts did just that, with Datto and Cavis hitting threes as Dollar Bay shaved four points off the Cardinals’ advantage and trailed 37-26 going into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Bolts could only manage a three from Cavis, a two-pointer from Datto, and some free throws in the fourth as the Cardinals pulled away for the win.
