E-TC’s Besonen, Calumet’s Djerf get All-U.P. honors

Ewen-Trout Creek junior Elise Besonen was named to the All-U.P. Dream Team on Monday.
The point guard was one of a few local girls basketball players getting All-U.P. honors from the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Calumet junior Elli Djerf was named to the Division 1-3 First Team. L’Anse’s Maija Rice, Chassell’s Paige Sleeman and Baraga’s Jaylyne Lindemann and Rylie Koskinen were named to the Division 4 Second Team.
Hancock’s D’Andra Kero, Calumet’s Marybeth Halonen and Houghton’s Stella Wickstrom were given Division 1-3 Honorable Mention.
Baraga’s Allison Durant, Ewen-Trout Creek’s Abbie LeGault and Paige Berglund, L’Anse’s Addison Mattson and Kaylin Voskuhl, Baraga’s Reide Osterman and Ontonagon’s Makennah Uotila were all given Division 4 Honorable Mention.
Menominee junior Emma Anderson was named Ms. U.P. Basketball. She was also named the Division 1-3 Player of the Year.
St. Ignace junior Hallie Marshall was named Division 4 Player of the Year.
Besonen was joined on the Dream Team by Anderson, Marshall, Escanaba’s Nicole Kamin, Westwood’s Tessa Leece and Forest Park’s Mercedes Simmons.
Apart from Djerf, the Division 1-3 First Team included Westwood’s Madelyn Koski, Gladstone’s Megan Crow, Negaunee’s Alyssa Hill and West Iron County’s Emily Nelson.
The Division 1-3 Second Team included Gwinn’s Marissa Delmont and Emily Curtice,, Marquette’s Aspen Michelin, Sault Ste. Marie’s Julia Beaumont, Ironwood’s McKenzie Boyd, Negaunee’s Chloe Norman, Kingsford’s Brooke Kriegl, Marquette’s Maria Millado, Ishpeming’s Emma Poirier, Menominee’s Erin Barrette and Westwood’s Natalie Prophet.
The Division 4 First Team included Munising’s Megan Matson, Engadine’s Sophia Vaughn, St. Ignace’s Ally Schultz, Carney-Nadeau’s Tessa Wagner and North Dickinson’s Briana Smith.
Joining Rice, Lindemann, Sleeman and Koskinen on the Division 4 Second Team were Mid Peninsula’s Kennedy Englund, Carney-Nadeau’s Sandra Boulton, Pickford’s Kennedy Guild, St. Ignace’s Emmalee Hart, North Central’s Andie Arsenault and Cedarville’s Elysia Causley.
Menominee was named the Division 1-2 Team of the Year. Westwood was named the Division 3 Team of the Year and St. Ignace was named Division 4 Team of the Year.
Sault Ste. Marie head coach Pat Bennin was named Division 1-3 Coach of the Year.
St. Ignace coach Dorene Ingalls was named Division 4 Coach of the Year.
