Bulldogs take down Kingsford, 7-1; Houghton wins

KINGSFORD — The Hancock Bulldogs hockey team scored five times in the first period and twice more in the second period en route to a 7-1 road victory over the Kingsford Flivvers.

The Bulldogs got a pair of goals from sophomore forward Calvin Heinonen and an assist in the win. His first came 8:07 into the contest and his second found the net with 10 seconds left in the middle frame and on the power play.

Luke Marcotte got the Bulldogs on the board just 22 seconds into the game. Just 2:50 later, co-captain Austin Salani found the back of the net.

Co-captain Mason Mikesch extended the Bulldogs’ lead to 4-1 with a power play goal at 9:48. 

Junior defenseman Chad Nordstrom scored the fifth Bulldogs goal.

Assistant captain Todd Anderson scored the sixth Bulldogs goal with 3:17 left in the second period and while on the man advantage. 

Junior Isaak made nine saves to earn the win.

NEGAUNEE — Landon Stevens scored four goals, and the Houghton Gremlins whitewashed Negaunee in a 9-0 mercy-rule win on Tuesday.

Stevens scored a hat trick with two goals in the first and his third just 31 seconds into the second period. His fourth goal came eight and a half minutes into the second period.

Nathan Erva had two goals and an assist. Camden Markham and Sully Rajala each had three assists. Dane Johnson had two assists.

Houghton goaltender Matthew Ryynanen made five saves on the night. Negaunee goaltender Ryan Kerkala made 34 saves.
