Crush 12U wins in Tomahawk

The 12U Copper Country Crush/ M&M PowerSports fastpitch softball team captured the Rod Timm Memorial Tournament in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, in dominating fashion, outscoring their opponents by a total of 71-3 over four games.

Ellie Hainault was the starting pitcher and earned the win in all four games with Romi Mattson closing each game out.

The Crush beat Lakeland 23-1 in the opener on Friday evening, led by Molly Erkkila, Lexi Burns, and Chloe Coppo with three hits each and Burns, Kia Markham, Mattson, and Jacey Sleeman each scoring three times.

The Crush beat Tomahawk 21-0 in their next matchup on Saturday morning.

Erkkila, Delaney Salmi, and Meg Ruohonen each scored three times. Salmi led the hitting attack with three hits, powering the Crush to the 1st seed in the bracket round.

The semifinal game pitted the Crush against Tomahawk again, with the Crush pulling away for a 17-1 victory.

Burns and Mattson each scored 3 times, Coppo and Ruohonen each had two hits.

The final was a rematch with Lakeland, ending in a convincing 10-1 championship victory for the Crush. The Crush jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on hits by Erkkila, Salmi, Burns, Markham and Coppo and never looked back. The Crush got two more in the third on a single by Salmi and an inside the park HR by Burns. The Crush closed out the scoring with four more insurance runs in the sixth, started by a bunt single by Kaelyn Rouleau, and consecutive doubles by Salmi, Burns, and Markham.

The 12U Crush team is back in action on July 23 in Merrill, Wisconsin.
