Fastpitch: JB’s Sales and Service routs NMLB, 17-1

LAKE LINDEN — JB’s Sales and Services’ Clea Ollankento set the tone early in her team’s 17-1 win over Northern Michigan Land Brokers on Wednesday.

The leadoff hitter knocked a home run over the fence on her opening at bat, and she wasn’t alone in her homerun prowess.

An inning later, second-spot hitter Gwen Markham blasted one out of the Boneyard for three RBI’s.

With the win JB’s sits atop the Copper Country Women’s Fastpitch League as the only remaining undefeated team.

“Those homeruns were great,” said JB’s player-manager Mackenzie Ekdahl. “Not only that, but everyone hit well tonight. We are on a roll.”

The women scored in each of the four innings of the shorted four-inning game that ended early due to the 15-run mercy rule.

JB’s Grace Brunet was the winning pitcher with an impressive eight- strikeout performance.

Northern Michigan Land Brokers were able to avoid the shutout as they plated a run in the third inning. Britney Daavettila got on base with a double up the middle and was brought in by Laura Kangas single several batters later.

Crush 9, Superior Service 2

Crush/Diamond House International/Loading Zone beat Superior Service with a 9-2 tilt at the Boneyard. The winning pitcher was Emily Jokela with help from Olivia Shank and Kara Kinnunen.

At the plate for Crush, Sarah Audette swung a big bat with a double and an inside-the-park homerun. Keirstyn Codere had a single and a double, and Laura Lyons had a homerun herself.

The big hitters for Superior Service were Ralli Therian with a home run and Isabelle Cleary with a single.

Tervo Agency 12, Superior National Bank 10

In Chassell, Tervo Agency defeated Superior National Bank 12-10. Mel Baker was the starting pitcher with Olivia Wakeham come in to relieve her and earn the win. Baker had one strikeout and Wakeham struck out 10.

Elisa Isaacson, Dana Berg and Rosalie Kangas all pitched for Superior National Bank.

Superior National Bank’s leadoff batter Brielle Anderson started off the game with a triple and later scored with of an RBI single by Brita Haataja. However, Tervo came out stronger with a four-run bottom of the first

After a couple of back-and-forth innings, Tervo took an 11 -5 lead in the bottom of the third inning and managed to hang on to that lead for the remainder of the game.

Superior National Bank added one run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, but it wasn’t quite enough.

For Tervo Agency, Alana Nolan had three singles. Jordyn Rowe had two base hits and Olivia Wakeham had a double.
