Fastpitch: JB’s Sales and Service tops Crush, 13-1

LAKE LINDEN -- JB's Sales and Service did what they do best on Wednesday, and that is win softball games.
They downed Crush/Diamond House International/Loading Zone 13-1 in just five innings due to the mercy rule at the Boneyard and remain perfect at 8-0 and in first place in the Copper Country Women's Fastpitch Softball League.
JB's jumped on the scored board with three runs in the first thanks to hits by Clea Ollanketo, Brynn Arko and Fayah Zapolnik. They would add another three in the third with doubles by Stella Soumis and Ollanketo. Ollaketo would have the hot bat on the night for JB's as she went 4-4 at the plate.
"We swung the bats well tonight," said JB's player-manager Mackenzie Ekdahl. "We are focused and in a good groove at the plate and in the field."
Soumis and Grace Brunet combined for the win for JB's and Sarah Audette took the loss for Crush.
Audette scored Crush's only run in the third inning. She reached first on a walk and eventually made it home on a Lena Myhren hit up the middle.
"It was not a good night for us," said Crush's manager Curtis Kinnunen. "We were missing some of our key players, but that is not an excuse."
Superior Service 20, Northern Michigan Land Brokers 4
Superior Service downed Northern Michigan Land Brokers easily on Wednesday with a 20-4 score. Milly Loukus and Reagan Moyle combined for the win.
Superior Service's big slugger for the night was Raili Therrian with five singles. Teammate Ally Ronis smacked two doubles and a single and Milly Loukus helped her own cause with two doubles. For NMLB, Brenna Hill had two singles.
REL, Inc. 6, Superior National Bank 0
REL defeated Superior National Bank in a hard-fought battle at the Chassell ballfield on Wednesday. Both teams remained scoreless for seven innings. Then in extra innings, REL finally got their bats going. D'Andra Kero led off the first extra inning with a single and then later scored on what would be the gaming winning run thanks to a single by Maddie Johnson. REL added another five runs that inning to bring their score to six runs. Then managed to hold SNB scoreless in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Vera Peterson was the winning pitcher for REL and Rosalie Kangas took the loss for SNB . At the plate for REL, Delaney Heinonen had three singles and Peterson, Morgan Erkkila and Kero each had two singles. For SNB, Elisa Isaacson and Sylvia Aho each had two singles.
