NAHL’s Windigo seeking host families in Houghton for training camp Aug. 22-31

The Wisconsin Windigo are seeking short-term host families in Houghton, Mich. ahead of training camp at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena on Aug. 21-31. The team is bringing 31 players to camp.

Players report to camp Aug. 21 and depart the afternoon of Aug. 31. Host families receive a $120 stipend and four tickets to a game of their choice for the Windigo’s inaugural season at the Dome in Eagle River, Wis. Host families will enjoy the benefit of meeting an exceptional young man and role model.

The Windigo moved training camp to the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena due to ice time availability.

The Windigo have strong connections to Michigan Tech and the Copper Country. Head coach Blake Hietala is a former Michigan Tech hockey player. Windigo co-owners John Rockwell is a Michigan Tech hockey alum, and David Rowe is a Calumet native.

The Windigo completed tryout camp Aug. 3-7 in Anoka, Minnesota, in which the team evaluated 236 players from 29 states, as well as Canada, Sweden, Finland and Latvia. The Windigo are playing their first season in Eagle River after playing previously in Minnesota.
