Gremlins boys and girls win Westwood Invite

The Westwood Patriots hosted the Westwood Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday at the Wawonowin Golf Course. The Houghton Gremlins won both the boys’ and girls’ races.

Negaunee senior Judge Anderson won the boys 5K with a time of 18:58.

saiah Lawson led the Houghton team in second. Duane Anderson led Calumet in seventh.

Thomas Jenkins led Gwinn in eighth. Levi Nicholls led Ishpeming in ninth. Patrick Klumpp led Westwood in 14th and Erik Wanhala led Hancock in 22nd. The Houghton’s boys’ team finished with 27 points, edging out Negaunee by one point. Westwood’s boys’ team placed third.

Ishpeming junior Lola Korpi won the girls 5K in 21:35.

Tessa Rautiola led the Houghton team in second. Endla Harris led Negaunee in third. Laretta Boburka led Westwood in sixth.

Milia Sturos led Calumet in seventh and Ella Keranen led Hancock in 10th. The Houghton’s girls’ team finished with 23 points. There was a tie for second, but the Hancock sixth-place runner ran faster than Calumet’s, so Hancock placed second and Calumet landed third place.

Rayna Towles and Liana Berg medaled for Hancock by placing 11th and 13th places. Kysa Keranen and Emily Moore were close behind and also Top 20.

Negaunee placed fourth and Westwood took fifth.

The WestPAC conference meet will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Negaunee Township Hall at 4 p.m.
