Lakes advance with win over Trojans

CRYSTAL FALLS — With 14 points in the second quarter and 16 more in the third, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes advanced in eight-player football playoff action with a 44-12 win Friday over Crystal Falls-Forest Park.

Forest Park struck first just under three minutes into the contest. The Lakes needed nearly seven minutes to respond, but did so when Danny Marcotte ran one in from 6 yards out. He tried to run in a two-point conversion, but was stopped short.

In the second quarter, James Milkey threw for a touchdown, and then ran for one about seven minutes later. His thrown touchdown went Sam Roberts for a 19-yard strike with 7:54 left in the first half.

Milkey then struck from 7 yards out with 1:09 left.

Roberts ran one in himself from 30 yards out to open the second half. He struck again just over six minutes later from 24 yards out.

After the Trojans cut the Lakes’ lead to 36-12 a minute into the fourth quarter, Roberts responded with a 25-yard run to cap the scoring.

The Lakes outgained the Trojans 402-220 on the night. The Lakes racked up 366 yards on the ground while holding the hosts to 166.

Roberts finished his night with 164 on the ground on 13 attempts. Marcotte racked up 127 yards on 14 attempts.

Marcot was 1-of-2 for 17 yards through the air.

Mason Holzberger had 43 yards on 10 attempts. Milkey picked up 38 yards on 11 attmpts and was 1-of-2 for 19 yards and a touchdown through the air.

The Lakes will travel next Friday to face North Central.
