Lakes use big first half to defeat Red Devils

IRONWOOD — Quarterback Danny Marcotte ran for 105 yards and passed for 87 more as the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes scored 36 points in the first half on the road in a 36-6 win over Ironwood Friday.

Sam Roberts got things started for the Lakes when he pushed the ball over the goal line on a 1-yard run with 10:37 left to play in the quarter. James Milkey then completed the two-point conversion to put the visitors up 8-0.

Milkey then got the call six and a half minutes later from four yards out. Milkey struck again on the next Lakes’ drive with 2:06 left in the quarter when he struck from 30 yards out. Marcotte then found him in the end zone for the two-point conversion, putting the Lakes up, 20-0.

In the second quarter, Marcott hit Gabe Popko for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Marcotte followed that score up with a two-point conversion run.

Just under eight minutes later, Mason Holzberger found the end zone from three yards out to push the lead to 34-0 with 2:44 left in the half. Roberts struck on the two-point conversion.

The Lakes racked up 367 yards off offense on 32 plays, including 280 on the ground. They also had 16 first downs while holding the Red Devils to just six.
