MANISTIQUE — The Calumet Copper Kings volleyball team went the distance to defeat the Elk Rapids Elks in five sets, 25-9, 25-27, 25-14, 20-25, and 15-12, in the Division 3 Region 25 championship Thursday.

Helen Beiring led the way for the Copper Kings, breaking a school record in the process. She led all attackers with 40 kills in the match. She also racked up 19 digs.

Beiring also hit a personal milestone as she earned her 1,000th kill during the match

Allie Bjorn added 10 kills with two blocks. Caitlyn Strom had 11 kills. Maddie Torola picked up seven.

Jackie Kiilunen had three kills, three blocks and 28 digs.

Laina Keriniemi had 65 assists over the course of the match. Kaylie Halonen racked up 27 digs.

With the win, Calumet advances to face McBain on Tuesday. The match will be played at Gaylord High School.
