Copper Mountain Conference announces honors
PAINESDALE — The Copper Mountain Conference announced its volleyball all-conference honors on Tuesday.
Ironwood’s Lisa Fechter was named Coach of the Year. Alaya Ruotala was named both Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
Baraga senior Cori Jahfetson and Ontonagon senior Makenna Uotila were both named to the Elite Team alongside a pair of girls from Jeffers in junior Sara Johnson and senior Hanna Larson.
In the Porcupine Mountain Division, Ewen-Trout Creek senior Kate Borseth, and Uotila earned first team honors. Ewen-Trout Creek’s Emma Besonen, a freshman, and Ontonagon senior Emmy Bobula were both named to the second team.
Ewen-Trout Creek senior Marissa Polkky earned honorable mention.
In the Copper Country Division, Johnson and Larson were joined by teammate Kaeda Rajala, a junior, on the first team. Lake Linden-Hubbell junior Maddie Bushell, Chassell senior Trisha Pietila, L’Anse senior Sophia Rice, and Jahfetson were also named to the first team.
Baraga junior McKenna Hendrickson and senior Kylie Michaelson were both named to the second team. Chassell senior Saige Hietala, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City junior Adelyn Swain, and Jeffers senior Raena Kangas and senior Chloe Turner were also named to the second team. Lake Linden-Hubbell senior Kara Kinnunen and junior Olivia Shank were named to the second team.
Jeffers freshman Mia Nordstrom, L’Anse senior Kaylee Lahti, and Lake Linden-Hubbell junior Abi Codere all earned honorable mention.
