Lakes’ season ends with tough playoff loss to Jets

POWERS — Less than two minutes into the second quarter, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes were looking at a chance to take the lead on a two-point conversion. However, that was as close as the Lakes got to challenging the North Central Jets before the two-time defending state champions scored the game’s next 38 points en route to a 45-6 win in Division 4 playoff football Friday night.

After a 46-yard run by Luke Gorzinski put the Jets up 7-0 in the first quarter, James Milkey responded for the Lakes with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Sam Roberts just 1:50 into the second. Milkey attempted a two-point conversion run, but was stopped.

From there, Gorzinski ran for touchdowns of 57 yards, 34 yards, and 1 yard to put the Jets up 27-6 by late in the third quarter.

The Lakes’ Mason Holzberger threw a 38-yard pass to Matthew Jokela, who scrambled to the Jets’ 22, but Jokela lost control of the ball. Gorzinski picked it up and ran it back for a touchdown on the play.

Dillon Raab and Jacob Gorzinski scored from 10 yards out and 18 yards out, respectively, in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Lakes were 4-for-10 through the air in the contest for 118 yards. They added 88 more on the ground on 40 attempts for 206 yards of total offense.

Starting at $3.50/week.
