Pioneers use 4-goal second period to earn win Saturday

HOUGHTON — Despite scoring the last two goals of the game, the Wolverines could not overcome a six-goal deficit as the Pioneers earned their second win of the weekend, 7-3, at the Dee Stadium Saturday.

The Pioneers got goals from seven different skaters in the win.

Cody Sivonen got things started with a goal just 2:10 into the contest. Hauswirth picked up an assist on the tally.

Carson Karineimi evened things a little under eight and a half minutes later, but back-to-back goals from Jackson Rocchi and Jack Fenton put the home team up 3-1 after 20 minutes.

In the middle frame, Jonathan Bostwick found the net just 44 seconds in. Austin Mikesch, Hauswirth, and Cale Markham all struck to extend the Pioneers’ lead to six, 7-1. Mikesch’s and Hauswirth’s tallies came 47 seconds apart, with Markham’s coming 58 seconds after that.

Karineimi scored his second of the game at 8:07 of the second and Dylan Boberg added a goal at 8:45 of the third, but the Wolverines could not add another goal before time expired.
