Bulldogs complete comeback in win over Trojans

HANCOCK — The Hancock Bulldogs hockey team scored two goals in a stretch of 92 seconds to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win Saturday over the Traverse City Central Trojans at the Houghton County Arena.

“(It’s) nice to win a game like that,” said Bulldogs coach Scott Mikesch. “Traverse City made some plays to get the lead and we found a way to win. Our team defense was really good again.”

David Olson got the Bulldogs on the board 4:23 into the contest off a feed from Micele Cora.

The game remained 1-0 in favor of the Bulldogs until 1:56 into the third period, when Hunter Folgmann got the Trojans on the board for the first time in the weekend with a power play goal. Just 48 seconds later, Owen Dawson gave the Trojans the lead.

At 12:11, Sam Roberts evened things for the Bulldogs. His unassisted tally was followed by Bryce Hanner’s goal at 13:43, giving the Bulldogs back the lead, this time for good.

“Micele Cora, Calvin Heinonen, Bryce Hanner and Sammy Roberts were the guys that made great plays in big moments,” Mikesch said. “Hopefully, this gives us confidence going into Wednesday’s game on the road against a really talented Houghton team that’s firing on all cylinders.”

Saku Cunard earned the win for the Bulldogs with 20 saves in the contest.
