GLHL: Wolverines earn split with Falcons on weekend

Wolverines earn win on Friday

CALUMET — With two goals in each of the first two periods and one more in the third, the Wolverines earned a 5-3 victory over Eagle River Friday night at the Calumet Colosseum.

The Wolverines scored the game’s first two goals, both off the stick of Brent Loukus, who struck just 27 seconds into the contest before adding another with 2:12 left in the opening frame.

Eagle River evened the score early in the second, and the game remained tied until Seth Coppo found the back of the net at 8:02.

Byron Parks gave the Wolverines back the lead at 11:16 of the middle frame.

Calumet extended their lead to three, 5-2, when Logan Rastello struck 7:12 into the third.

Eagle River got one back with 2:16 left in the contest, but that was as close as they got.

Tyler Hubbard had a strong night in net for the Wolverines, making 42 saves on 45 shots. He was at his busiest in the opening period, where he stopped 16 of 17 Falcons’ shots.

Wolverines fall on Saturday

CALUMET — Despite scoring five goals, the Wolverines fell 10-5 to the Falcons on Saturday at the Calumet Colosseum.

Loukus got the Wolverines on the board at 7:18, cutting Eagle River’s lead to one, 2-1. Trailing 3-1, the Wolverines struck again when Rastello scored with 2:19 left in the opening period.

In the second, Sherman Mowery evened the game at 3-3 just 4:47 in.

The Falcons scored the game’s next five straight goals, including a power play marker and a shorthanded one.

Stephen Dudenas scored the Wolverines’ fourth goal of the night at 4:39 of the third. After the Falcons struck again, Ayden Williams responded at 12:46.

The Falcons scored on more before the final buzzer with 12.1 seconds left in the contest.

Hubbard made 21 saves in the loss.
