Blake Pietila named CCHA Goaltender of the Week

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech senior Blake Pietila has been named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week the league announced on Monday. Pietila received the honor for the third time this season and for the 10th time in his career.

Pietila was named Desert Hockey Classic Most Valuable Player after going 2-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage last week in Tempe, Ariz. He made 24 saves in a 4-2 victory over host Arizona State for then-No. 16 Michigan Tech, before turning away 31-of-33 shots in a 3-2 win over then-No. 6 Boston University in the championship game on Saturday. For the weekend, he made a total of 55 saves in 120 minutes of action.

Pietila ranks fifth nationally with 13 wins, seventh in minutes played, 13th in winning percentage (.667), 16th in goals-against average (2.17), and 16th in save percentage (.923).

Michigan Tech is ranked No. 13 in this week’s DCU/USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Huskies are 14-6-3 overall and 7-4-3 in the CCHA. The No. 13 ranking is the highest of this season and ties last season’s top ranking.

The Huskies return to CCHA play this weekend, hosting St. Thomas. Friday is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night and Saturday is Junior Hockey Night and Skate with the Huskies after the game.
