All- U.P. boys’ basketball team announced: Jeffers’ Frahm voted to Dream Team

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association announced its 2022-23 All-U.P. boys’ basketball teams on Friday.

The Munising Mustang’s Kane Nebel was named Division 4 Player of the Year and was named Mr. U.P. Basketball. The Mustangs (25-1) were state champions and appropriately honored as the Division 4 Team of the Year. Their leader, Terry Kienitz, was named Coach of the Year.

The Division 1-3 Player of the Year was Iron Mountain Mountaineers sophomore Oskar Kangas. Iron Mountain coach Bucky Johnson was Coach of the Year. Iron Mountain shared Division 3 Team of the Year honors with St. Ignace.

Kingsford was named the Division 1-2 Team of the Year.

The All-UP Dream Team is as follows: Kangas, St. Ignace junior Jonny Ingalls, Frahm and Kingsford senior Nic Nora.

Divisions 1-3 First Team honors went to junior Trevor Theuerkauf of Menominee, senior Casey Bray of Escanaba, junior Gavin Saunders of Negaunee, sophomore Gavin Grondin of Kingsford, and sophomore Jacob MacPhee of Marquette.

Division 4 First Team members included junior Asher Garrison of Watersmeet, senior Luke Gorzinski of North Central, junior Alex Ortman of Norway, sophomore Trevor Nolan of Munising, and junior Cam Peterson of Rudyard.

Divisions 1-3 Second Team awards went to sophomore Gerald Sampoll Torres of Iron Mountain, sophomore Jaxon Jurmu of Marquette, junior Andrew Niemi of Westwood, junior Shane Wallin of Escanaba, senior Mikko Salmi of Houghton, senior Mason Sager of Negaunee, senior Kaden Drossart of Bark River-Harris, junior Nate Koepp of Sault Ste. Marie, senior Joey Colavecchi of Iron Mountain, and sophomore Caden Luoma of Ishpeming.

Division 4 Second Team members included junior Perry LeBlanc of Brimley, senior Connor Florenski of North Central, senior Brayden Altoft of Maplewood Baptist, sophomore Austin Gordon of Ewen-Trout Creek, senior Spencer Coldren of Stephenson, sophomore Carson Kienitz of Munising, senior Amos Norland of Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, senior Felix Quevedo of Crystal Falls Forest Park, junior Matthew Schutz of Jeffers, senior Shawn Gibbons of L’Anse, junior Gabe Popko of Lake Linden-Hubbell, and senior Ashton Kunishige of Jeffers.
