Crush-ing it: Copper Country Crush kicks off 2023 season with strong weekend

The Copper Country Crush fast pitch travel softball teams opened their season in impressive fashion in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. The Crush combined for a 9-1-1 record between the three teams.
The CoreWellness Chiropractic-SNB 8U Crush team went 3-0 over the weekend, beating the Johnson Creek Yellowjackets all three games.
Avery Pietila and Allie Mettlach had strong pitching performances for the Crush. Allie Mettlach had an inside-the-park home run to pace the Crush at the plate.
Coach Phil Pietila was happy with his teams performance.
“This is the third season of our 8U program, and we are seeing great development in our girls,” he said. “The girls put in a lot of work in the offseason, and it’s fun to watch them get rewarded.”

The MM Powersports-Dean Kangas State Farm 10U team had a record of 2-1-1 over the weekend.
Ramona Raisanen, Taylor Goldsworthy and Amelia Pennala turned in strong pitching performances. Goldsworthy led the Crush in hits.
“It’s a great group of hardworking girls who have improved steadily throughout the winter workouts,” said coach Steve Mattson. “We expect to see continued improvement now that summer practice is in full swing.”
The Keweenaw Chev-Pat’s Foods 12U girls went 4-0 over the weekend.
Strong pitching by Payton Goldsworthy and Lucy Biekkola paced the Crush.

The 12U team also exhibited strong hitting and base running, which was something coaches Andrew Goldsworthy and Craig Biekkola stressed over the offseason.

The next tournament the Crush teams will compete in will be the annual home tournament June 23-25.
