Lakes sweep Ironwood in softball

LAKE LINDEN — In a doubleheader late last week, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes softball team swept outscored the Ironwood Red Devils 37-11 over the pair of contests. They posted a 19-3 win in the first game and an 18-8 victory in the second game.

With the wins, the Lakes improved to 11-2.

In the opener, pitcher Olivia Shank threw a complete game striking out 13. Kara Kinnunen and Clara Colombe both had two singles and a double apiece on the road to victory.

In the nightcap, the Red Devils bats scored a few more runs, but the Lakes showed no mercy in their 18-8 tilt.

Kinnunen earned the win from the circle with four strikeouts. Cleo Milkey had a single and a double. Allie Corrigan added a hit as well.

“Our hitting and pitching have been really good,” said Lakes coach Curtis Kinnunen. “It couldn’t come at a better time as district play is just around the corner.”
