HANCOCK — On the softball diamond Saturday at The Driving Park, the Negaunee Miners earned the WestPAC Tournament title in definitive fashion. They defeated Calumet 10-0 in the championship game.

Calumet coach Joel Rastello summed up the loss.

“They have a good pitcher who throws hard, and they hit the ball well,” he said.

The Miners scored three runs in the first and one in the second. They then put the proverbial nail in the coffin in the third as they plated six runs and put the game out of reach.

Despite the lopsided loss, Rastello was pleased with his girls’ overall performance. To get to the championship game, the Copper Kings (10-10) defeated Westwood 10-1 in an opening-round game, and then came from behind with a 3-2 win against Hancock in the second round.

“(The) girls are getting better,” he said. “We are winning the games that we should be winning.”
