Bach continues to lead Keweenaw Disc Golf Tour

HOUGHTON — The second stop of the 2023 Keweenaw Disc Golf Tour is in the books and Noah Bach still tops the leaderboard. The second stop of the six-round summer tour took place at the Michigan Tech disc golf course on the last Saturday in May.

Fifteen players battled it out over the course of two rounds of golf with lunch in between. Bach closed the day with two rounds of 43 (6 under par each) and end with a total score of 86. Coming in second was Rhett Carlson at 89 and Dylan Boberg finished third at 96.

“There was some great competition,” said tour director A.J. of Constellation Farmstead. “The Tech course is our woodiest course with lots of trees and technical lines. You really must thread the needle, and precision is key. If you mess up, you will be punished for it, because there is not a lot of space to get out of the woods.”

A.J. added that while Bach once again played very well throughout the day, he was not alone. Among those setting personal bests at the Tech course was Drew Pickens.

“Drew had a tough first round and shot six over par,” A.J. stated. “But in the second round, he stepped up and shot two under par and had no bogeys. So, not only did Drew improve his score by eight, but shot the only bogey-free round of the afternoon.”

Also of interest, players donated a portion of their entry fee to support the Michigan Tech Disc Golf Club. The club is establishing a competitive team in order to play collegiate disc golf against other colleges and universities. The funds donated to the club will go directly to supporting these new competitive collegiate disc golf efforts, such as travel, lodging, entrance fees, uniforms and other expenses associated with collegiate disc golf.

“Most importantly, everyone had fun,” noted A.J. “We again lucked out with good weather, and things ran smoothy. There were smiles all around and many congratulations by day’s end.”
