League recognition: Pietila and Koskipirtti named CCHA Players of the Week

HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech’s Logan Pietila and Max Koskipirtti have been named CCHA Players of the Week. Pietila is the CCHA Forward of the Week and Koskipirtti is the CCHA Rookie of the Week.

Senior forward Logan Pietila scored twice in the CCHA Mason Cup Semifinal win over Minnesota State. He tied the game with a penalty shot goal with 4:33 left in the third and then scored the game-winner with 9.1 seconds remaining in regulation. Pietila leads the nation with 13 career game-winning goals, including five this season. He has a career-high 29 points in his fifth season with 13 goals and 16 assists. He is currently on a four-game point streak with four goals and four assists.

Forward Max Koskipirtti registered a pair of assists in the CCHA Semifinal victory over the Mavericks. He had the primary assist on Tech’s first goal by Jack Works in the second period while also adding the primary assist on Kash Rasmussen’s third-period power-play goal. Koskipirtti was also a key member of the penalty-killing unit which went 2-for-2. In 31 games in his freshman season, he has 20 points with three goals and 17 assists. He is currently riding a five-game point streak with six assists.

Tech travels to Bemidji State to face the Beavers in the CCHA Mason Cup Championship Game at 8:07 p.m. Eastern on Friday. The winner will receive the Mason Cup and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
