Bulldogs baseball sweeps Mountaineers on the road

IRON MOUNTAIN — With stellar pitching from Bryce Hanner in the opener, the Hancock Bulldogs baseball team earned a sweep of the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Friday afternoon. They won the first game, 3-0, and then the nightcap, 14-2.

Hanner threw a two-hitter, striking out six over six innings to get the win in Game One.

Brayden Larson got things started at the plate for the Bulldogs in the second inning in a full count situation. His single to right field scored Hanner.

With Zach Geborkoff on third base in the third, Todd Kilpela grounded into what should have been a routine play. Instead, a defensive error allowed him to reach first, and gave Geborkoff time to get home, extending Hancock’s lead to 2-0.

Another defensive error in the sixth allowed Alex Pietila to get on base. Two batters later, Ned Larson singled to center, giving Pietila time to round third and score to put the game out of reach.

In the second game, Benny Keranen threw a gem, striking out eight and walking one over five innings. He did give up five hits, but only two runs.

Hanner went 2-for-3 at the plate, walking once, knocking in two and scoring twice. Kilpela went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Brayden Larson, batting ninth, went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a walk.
