Bulldogs softball scores 30 in sweep of Mountaineers

IRON MOUNTAIN — With Brooke Koskela knocking in four runs in the opener, and Sofie Freeman going 3-for-4 in the nightcap, the Hancock Bulldogs softball team earned a sweep of the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Friday, 12-0 and 18-2.

Koskela had a single, a triple and then a two-run home run in the fifth inning to drive the Bulldogs’ offense in Game One. She finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Sydnie Scholie was also strong at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, a double, and a run scored. Freeman went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Ella Storm also went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Sadie Biekkola was outstanding in the pitcher’s circle, striking out 10, walking three and giving up just two hits in the game. At the plate, she went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

In the second game, the Bulldogs scored seven runs in the second inning and nine in the fourth on their way to the win.

Diem Kilpela earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out seven and walking five while giving up four hits.

Freeman hit a home run, knocked in two runs and scored three times to help drive the offense.

Scholie went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored. Mallory Sporalski had two hits, both doubles, and she drove in four runs.

Biekkola and Storm both went 2-for-3. Both knocked in a run each.

Hancock returns to action Tuesday when they host Calumet at the Hancock Driving Park.
