Jeffers’ Frahm named to All-U.P. Dream Team

MARQUETTE — Earlier this month the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association met in Marquette to cast their votes on their annual year-end basketball awards and a number of Copper Country players received accolades.

Among them was Levi Frahm, of the Jeffers Jets, who earned Dream Team honors. The Jets finished the year 23-2 overall and a perfect 12-0 in the Copper Mountain Conference.

Frahm was a Division 3 Second Team all-state pick this year, also earning Copper Mountain Conference Player of the Year, after he was an All-U.P. Dream Team selection last season. He averaged 18.8 points, seven rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 41% on 3-pointers and 80% at the free throw line.

“Levi is just a great all-around player that doesn’t come along that often,” said Jets coach John Schutz. “The kid can just do anything and everything.”

Jets’ teammate Matthew Schutz earned All- U.P. First Team honors in Division 1-3. In Division 4, Lake Linden- Hubbell’s Gabe Popko was named to the Division 4 All-U.P. First Team. The Lakes’ Danny Marcotte earned Second Team honors as did Dollar Bay-Tamarack City’s Liam Tourtillott for Division 4.

Luke Hill, of Houghton, earned a Second-Team honor for Division 1.

Joining Frahm on the Dream Team were: Gavin Grondin, of Kingsford, Oscar Kangas, of Iron Mountain, Jacob MacPhee, of Marquette and Johnny Ingalls, of St. Ignace.

Kangas was named the All-U.P. Division 1-3 Player of the Year, while Ingalls earned the same in Division 4.

Fllivvers’ coach Dan Olkkonen received Division 1-3 Coach of the Year honors, and Doug Ingalls, of St. Ignace, earned the Division 4 Coach of the Year honors.

Marquette was named the Division 1-2 Team of the Year while Menominee earned the same in Division 2, and St. Ignace eared the Division 3 spot.

The All-U.P. First Team Division 1-3 honorees included: Nate Koepp, Sault Ste. Marie; Ethan Marta, Westwood; and Gavin Saunders, Negaunee.

Division 1-3 Second Team honors went to: Wyatt Demers, Manistique; Kaden Gibbs, of Gladstone; Drake Johnson, Gladstone; Jaxon Jurmu, Marquette; Caden Luoma, Ishpeming; Andrew Niemi, Westwood; Gerald Sampoll-Torres, Iron Mountain, Trevor Theurekauf, Menominee; and Shane Wallin, of Escanaba.

Special Mention in Division 1-3 went out to Connor Coduti, Menominee; Ethan Ives, Bark River-Harris; and Elijah Oberlin, of West Iron County.

Among those receiving Honorable Mention honors in Division 1-3 were: Eddie Anderson, Westwood-Marenisco; Alan Bjorn, Calumet; Gavin Sturos, Calumet; Blake Tarvis, Calumet; Matthew Colavecchi, Iron Mountain; Braydon Derouin, Bark River-Harris; Connor Dupras, Gwinn; Parker Graphos, Manistique; Baron Heslip, Negaunee; Isaiah Lawson, Ishpeming; Hunter Smith, Ishpeming; Jacob Markworth, Kingsford; Morgan Sleik, Kingsford; Nick Matthews, Gladstone; Cody Noel, Escanaba; Javon Stevenson, Escanaba; Kyler Sager, of Marquette.

The All-U.P. First Team Division 4 team included: Vic Giuliani, Forest Park; Trevor Nolan, Munising; Alex Ortman, Norway and Cam Peterson, of Rudyard.

Division 4 Second Team honors went to: Axton Ruotsala, Ironwood, Trent Rutter, Superior Central; Bradley VanDamme, Mid Pen; Austin Gordon, Ewen-Trout Creek; Owen Keneau, of Stephenson; Caden Chromy, Maplewood Baptist; Carter Cole, Westwood-Marenisco; Jake Dusseault, Munising; and Kevin Giuliani, of Crystal Falls Forest Park.

Special Mention among Division 4 boys included: Myles Anderson, Rapid River; Cole Baij, Norway; Carter Cole, Wakefield-Marenisco; Carson Kienitz, Munising; Eli Macdonald, Pickford; Peyton Pederson, Big Bay de Noc; Jake Poquette, North Central; Gavin Rintala, Forest Park; Jayden Sagataw, Hannahville; and Tom Storey, of Pickford.

Division 4 Honorable Mention went to Gunner Bennin, of Pickford.
