Copper Country softball players honored at district level

HOUGHTON — On Wednesday, the All-District Softball Team for Division 3 District 65 was announced. Houghton and Calumet combined to place seven players on the list.

Honored from the Gremlins were senior outfielders Kenzie Collard and Brynn Arko, senior shortstop Clea Ollanketo, sophomore third baseman Jacey Sleeman, and junior pitcher Stella Soumis.

Calumet juniors Lena Myhren and Isabella Coppo were honored. Myhren was named as a utililty player while Coppo earned honors as a designated player.

Coppo led the Copper Kings in hitting, batting .506 with an on base percentage of .551 and an OPS of 1.287. She racked up three home runs, seven doubles and two triples. She also had a fielding percentage of .974.

Myhren was the Copper Kings top pitcher, seeing action in 17 games, starting 14. She went 8-6 and racked up 46 strikeouts. She was also’s the team’s second-best hitter, averaging .484. She led the Copper Kings with six home runs. She also had six doubles and two triples.

Negaunee had five honorees in outfielder Delaney Gladwell, first baseman Rebecca Lammi, catcher Kallen Schultz, pitcher Grace Nardi, who was the WestPAC Pitcher of the Year, and Theresa Anderson.

Westwood’s Marta sisters were also named to the all-district team. Izzie earned honors at second base while Megan earned an at-large position.
