Gremlins softball sweeps Modeltowners
GWINN — The Houghton Gremlins softball team saw its offense show up in a big way Thursday as they cruised to a pair of wins over the Gwinn Modeltowners on the road, 22-0 and 20-0.
In the opener, the Gremlins had 16 hits. They also drew 11 walks.
Ellie Hainault drove the Gremlins offense from the leadoff spot, where she went 4-for-5 with two RBI, four runs scored, and a home run. Kenzie Collard was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored.
Stella Soumis was also perfect in the batter’s box, going 3-for-3 with three RBI, a walk, a home run, and three runs scored.
Romi Mattson, Reagan Moyle, Josie Switzer, Emmy Pietila, and Skye Isaacson all had hits as well.
Soumis went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, throwing a no-hitter with six strikeouts and walking one.
In the nightcap, Houghton’s offense racked up 18 hits and six walks.
Collard led the Gremlins, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored. Moyle added three hits, two RBI and one run scored.
Soumis, Switzer, Hainault, and Kia Markham both had two hits each. Mattson, Pietila, and Lexi Burns all had one hit.
Moyle threw three innings in the pitcher’s circle, surrendering one hit, walking one, and striking out two.
