Local golfers hit the course at Oak Crest

NORWAY — On Friday, several area high school golfers got their first taste of competition for the 2025 season in style by competing in the Norway Invite at Oak Crest Golf Course in Norway.

The Calumet Copper Kings won the overall tournament with a score of 325. The Hancock Bulldogs, Houghton Gremlins, Jeffers Jets and Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes went second-through-fifth, giving the local teams a clean sweep of the top team spots. The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts finished eighth, giving the Copper Country six of the top eight spots.

Stephenson’s Owen Kuehnau finished as the medalist with a score of 71. Calumet’s Ben Anderson and Ryder Hodges finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with scores of 78 and 79.

Lake Linden’s Brayden Beaudette had the lone hole-in-one with his perfect shot on No. 7.

Anderson’s 78 included a 38 on the front and a 40 on the back. Hodges was the opposite. His front nine was a 40, but he shot 39 on the back.

After Anderson and Hodges, who were Calumet’s second and fifth golfers, Ted Loukus shot 83 going out in 42 and coming back in 41, and Robert Loukus shot 85.

Kirby Storm paced Hancock with an 80 that saw him post a 39 on the back nine. Jackson Sintkowski shot 82, Nolan Hanner shot 83, and Marty Pietila shot 84.

Houghton was led by Jack Sayen’s 80. Ian Hong shot 38 on the back to finish with an 81. Brendan Jukuri shot 84. Carter Campioni finished with an 86.

Cameron Anderson paced Jeffers with a 41-40, good for 81. Tage Rajala finished with 84 after shooting 42-42. Easton Therrian had an 87, as did Griffin Heinonen.

For Lake Linden, the Axford triplets paced the team. Tyler shot 83 with 41 on the front and a 42 2 on the back. Lukas shot 41-43 for an 84. Brady had a strong front nine for 42, but struggled a bit on the back to finish with 87. Beaudette’s ace helped him to a 45 on the front. He shot 52 on the back for a 97.

Dollar Bay was led by Josh Gaunt, who shot 43-41 for 84. Caleb Kentala shot 96. Jackson Vondoloski shot 97. Landon Halkola finished with a 98.
