Tomashek receives GLIAC Commissioner’s Award
HOUGHTON — Michigan Tech Huskies men’s basketball junior guard Marcus Tomashek has been named a recipient of the 2024-25 GLIAC Commissioner’s Award, the GLIAC announced on Tuesday. The awards are presented after the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in competition.
Tomashek is the first GLIAC Commissioner’s award recipient for the men’s basketball squad since Owen White in 2021-22.
The standout guard finished the 2024-25 campaign ranked top-10 nationally in field goal attempts (539), free throw attempts (255), free throws (188) and points (720)–while his 23.2 points per game ranked 11th in the country. He earned accolades of NABC All-America, D2CCA First Team All-America, NABC All-District, D2CCA All-Region First Team, GLIAC Player of the Year, First Team All-GLIAC, and a Bevo Francis Top-25 Watch List. He was a focal point for the Huskies, who won the GLIAC regular season outright championship and an NCAA Tournament Berth as the Black and Gold finished the season 24-8 overall.
The pride of Green Bay, Wisconsin, scored 30 or more points in nine games with two 40-point games, including a career-high 45-point outing. He led the GLIAC with five GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, including a one-time NABC Player of the Week distinction.
Academically, Tomashek was named to the CSC Academic All-America First Team and the CSC Academic All-District team, holding a 3.70 cumulative GPA pursuing a degree in forestry.
