Bulldogs boys, Gladiators girls win at George Young

IRON RIVER — The Hancock Bulldogs boys and the Ontonagon Gladiators girls golf teams each won the George Young Invite Thursday in Iron River. The Bulldogs topped the Negaunee Miners by just one stroke, 322-323, while the Gladiators held off the Miners with a combined score of 426 to Negaunee’s 437.

Negaunee’s Kody Bear shot a 76 to win the medalist honors on the boys’ side.

Hancock was paced by Jackson Sintkowski, who shot 79, which was the third-best total of the day. Nolan Hanner shot 80, good for fifth. Kirby Storm shot 81, which was seventh. Drew Sturos and Connor Helminen both shot 82, which tied them for 10th.

The Jeffers Jets finished third with a team score of 330. They were paced by Benton Rajala’s 79. Tage Rajala shot 81, Easton Therrian shot 84, and Max Nordstrom shot 86.

The Houghton Gremlins placed fourth, with a team score of 336, thanks in large part to Jack Sayen’s 78, which placed him second overall. Ian Hong tied for 10th with a score of 82. Brendan Jukuri and Max Aldrich both shot 88.

The Calumet Copper Kings finished fifth with a team score of 342. Ben Anderson led the way with an 84. Robert Loukus shot 85, Erik Loukus shot 86, and Ted Loukus shot 87.

The Baraga Vikings finished seventh with a team score of 376. Jace Sikkila led the way with an 89. Daniel Connor shot 93, Kale Cichosz shot 94, and Keegan Davidson shot 100.

The Gladiators finished 10th with a team score of 399. They were led by Jerry Majurin’s 84. Jack Nelson shot 90, Owen Dantti shot 97, and Logan Beck shot 128.

The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts finished 14th with a team score of 473. Josh Gaunt led the way with a 97. Landon Halkola shot 100, Bennet Stevens shot 115, and Dave Torrey shot 161.

On the girls’ side, the Gladiators’ Madyson Pantti was the medalist with an 89, six strokes better than Negaunee’s Sonya Erva, who shot 95. Calumet’s Maretta Kangas finished third with a score of 96.

The Gladiators also got a 98 from Summer Stites, who finished fourth, a 107 from Olivia Lockhart, who finished seventh, and a 134 from Kylee Outila.

The Copper Kings finished third with a team score of 445. After Kangas, they had Braylin Antilla finish eighth with a score of 107, Kaitlyn Pennala shot 117, and Lucy LaCross shot 125.

The Bulldogs finished fourth with a team score of 453. Kaelyn Rouleau paced the team with a 101, which was fifth-best for the day. Diem Kilpela shot 115, Chloe Bastian shot 118, and Briell L’Esperance shot 119.

The Gremlins took fifth with a team score of 556. They were paced by Maddie Geborkoff’s 127. Haley Kriepke shot 132, Mia Lawson shot 139, and Alyssa Northey shot 158.

Jeffers’ Isabel Rajala finished eighth individually with a 107.
