Bulldogs boys, Miners girls golf teams win WestPAC titles

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Hancock Bulldogs boys and Negaunee Miners girls won their respective WestPAC Championships Tuesday at Timberstone Golf Course in Iron Mountain. The Bulldogs boys edged out the Houghton Gremlins by just five strokes, 329-334. The Miners girls held off the Bulldogs for a two-stroke victory, 466-468.

Houghton’s Jack Sayen finished as the medalist alongside Hancock’s Kirby Storm as both shot 79. Calumet’s Ryder Hodges finished tied for fourth with an 81.

Alongside Storm, Hancock got strong performances out of Jackson Sintkowski, who shot 82, Drew Sturos, who shot 83, and Nolan Hanner, who shot 85.

After Sayen, Houghton had good days from Brendan Jukuri, who shot 82, Connor Arko, who shot 84, and Carter Campioni, who shot 89.

The Copper Kings finished third with a team score of 336. They were paced by Hodges. Robert Loukus shot 84, Ted Loukus shot 85, and Erik Loukus shot 86.

On the girls’ side, Calumet’s Maretta Kangas finished as the medalist with a 94. Hancock’s Kaelyn Rouleau finished tied for second with teammate Diem Kilpela, as both shot 106.

For Hancock, After Rouleau and Kilpela, Chloe Bastian shot 125, and Briell L’Esperance shot 131.

The Copper Kings finished third. After Kangas, Braylinn Antilla shot 122, Maija Keranen shot 125, and Lucy LaCross shot 128.

Houghton had three girls compete, with Haley Kriepke leading the team with 137.
