Gremlins softball rolls to wins over Patriots

HOUGHTON — The Houghton Gremlins softball team swept the visiting Westwood Patriots Thursday at home. They won the opener 12-2, and followed that up with a 19-17 win in the nightcap.

Pitcher Stella Soumis was strong in the pitcher’s circle, allowing two runs and four hits. She had four strikeouts in the first five innings.

Ellie Hainault had a home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning, and scored three times. Kenzie Collard hit a home run in the third to center field. She knocked in two runs in the game.

In the nightcap, Reagan Moyle got the start and went 4 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking three. Romi Mattson came in and threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, striking out four and giving up just two hits.

Hainault went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBI and four runs scored. She had a double and a triple in the game.

Collard and Moyle both had three hits each. Collard knocked in three runs. Moyle knocked in one.

Mattson went 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI, a walk, and three runs scored.

Sophie Hebert and Josie Switzer also had two hits each.
