Jets boys, Copper Kings girls win in Ironwood Wednesday

IRONWOOD — The Jeffers Jets boys and Calumet Copper Kings girls both won their respective sides of the Ironwood Invite Wednesday.

Ontonagon’s Jerry Majurin paced the boys with a 78, followed closely by the Jeffers duo of Benton Rajala (79) and Tage Rajala (81). For the girls, Maretta Kangas of Calumet led the field with a 97. She was followed by Ontonagon’s Sam Bailey, who finished with a 98.

The Jets boys also had good days from Easton Therrian, who shot 85 and Max Nordstrom, who had an 86. They finished with a team score of 331, 17 better than the runner-up Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes.

The Lakes took second thanks to strong play from the Axford triplets. Brady and Tyler both shot 82, while Lukas posted an 86. Brayden Beaudette finished with a 98.

Calumet finished third. They had three players shot 89 in Calvin Anderson, Carter Salata, and Rogan Gronlund. Nels Loukus shot 91.

The Baraga Vikings took fourth. They were paced by Mason Sprenkle and Jace Sikkila, who both posted 88. Keegan Davidson shot 90, and Kale Cichosz shot 93.

Josh Gault paced the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts with an 86. Jackson Vondoloski shot 88. Caleb Kentala finished with a 90, and Landon Halkala shot 97.

The Gladiators boys were paced by Majurin. Also scoring for them were Abi Pestka (93), Owen Pantti (101), and Will Ingalls (103).

After Kangas’ 97 for the Copper Kings, their other three girls were Linnea Pennala (120), Braylinn Antilla (120) and Kaitlyn Pennala (130).

Bailey paced the Gladiators, who lost to the Copper Kings by a stroke. She was followed by Madyson Pantti (102), Summer Stites (107) and Kylee Uotila.
