Lakes boys and girls win regional meet at home

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes won both the boys and the girls side of the Region 47 meet Wednesday at home. The Lakes boys outscored Bessemer 63-46, while the girls topped Ewen-Trout Creek, 66.67-33.
The Lakes boys were paced by their three individual winners. Sophomore Lukas Axford won the 300m hurdles with a personal-record time of 43.10. Senior Alex Drew won the discus with a throw of 125 feet, 6 inches. Senior Nate St. Onge won the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, 3 inches.
The 4x400m relay team of Brady Axford, Danny Mikus, Kaden Gariepy, and Lukas Axford won their race with a time of 3:46.49. The 4x800m relay team of Bradyn Byykonen, St. Onge, Blake Lebo and Mikus won their race with a time of 13:14.41.
The Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts finished third with a team score of 22. They were paced by sophomore Baron Colbert’s win in the high jump where he jumped 5 feet, 10 inches.
The Chassell Panthers finished fourth with a team school of 15. They were paced by senior Kalvin Kytta, who won the 800m with a season-best time of 2:09.37, the 1600m with a time of 4:47.27, and the 3200m with a time of 11:16.88.
The Ontonagon Gladiators finished fifth with a team score of 14. They were paced by freshman Niko Amos, who won the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.59, which was a new personal record.
The Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers finished seventh with a team score of six. Their best finish was a second-place one by freshman Cooper Moilanen in the 1600m.
The Lakes girls were paced by senior Emily Jokela, who won the 100m with a time of 13.05, the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.56, the 300m hurdles with a time of 49.22, and the 400m with a time of 1:02.72.
Junior Maddie Dudenas won the discus with a toss of 87 feet, 7 inches. She also won the shot put with a throw of 33 feet. Sophomore Ashlyn Steves and freshman Lissa Johnson tied for the pole vault win with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.
The 4x200m relay team of Steves, Ella Schneiderhan, Payton Goldsworthy and Isabella Tampas won their race with a time of 1:57.01. The 4x400m team of Steves, Addeline Schmitt, Schneiderhan and Tampas won their race with a time of 4:31.42.
Ewen was paced by freshman Bree Besonen, who won the 800m with a time of 2:38.07, the 1600m with a time of 5:51.60, and finished second in the 3200m.
The 4x800m relay team of Emma Besonen, Leona Schutz, Alyssa DeCremer, and Bree Besonen won the race with a time of 12:04.27.
The Blue Bolts finished third with a team score of 32.33. They were paced by junior Kiera Isaacson’s win in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 3 inches, which was a new personal record and the 36th best jump state wide. Sophomore Laila Bell won the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 4.5 inches. She also won the pole vault with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.
The Gladiators finished fourth with a team score of 25. They were paced by senior Alli Bobula, who won the 200m with a season-best time of 28.05. She also finished second in the 100m and the long jump.
The 4x100m relay team of Gracie Guzek, Bobula, Jenna Tarnowski, and Violet Amos won their race with a season-best time of 53.44.
Chassell finished fifth with a team score of 17. They were paced by senior Lily Etelamaki’s win in the 3200m with a personal-record time of 13:12.02. She also finished second in the 1600m.
