Taylor Heinonen, Cody Turner named 2025 Outstanding Athletes at Jeffers

PAINESDALE — Jeffers High School announced their 2025 outstanding athletes Friday. Taylor Heinonen was the Female Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winner. The Male Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winner was Cody Turner.

Heinonen has played volleyball and basketball over the past four years. Throughout her athletic career, she has had a number of individual and team highlights.

In volleyball, she was a two-year starter as a setter/right-side hitter, and she helped the Jeffers volleyball program win the Copper Mountain Conference in the last two seasons.

In her volleyball career, she earned Copper Country Division Second Team as a junior, and as a senior was named to the Copper Mountain Conference Elite Team. She also was a team member of the team that won the 2022 District Volleyball Championship.

In basketball, she was a four-year varsity starter. She scored over 740 points in her career. As a senior, she was a team captain, and led the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game.

During her basketball career, she was named to the Copper Mountain Conference – Copper Division First Team as a junior and senior. Also as a senior, earned honorable mention in Divisions 1-3 in the All-U.P. selections.

Turner has been a three-sport athlete throughout his career, playing football, hockey, and baseball. His athletic ability has led to his individual and team success throughout his career.

As a football player in the Hancock co-op program, he played varsity football for three years. In his senior season, he was the team captain, and named to the WestPAC First Team.

In hockey, he was integral to the team’s success over the past two seasons, which included two Great Lakes Hockey Conference Championships, a regional championship, and a state semifinal appearance. He scored 38 goals and had 58 assists for 96 career points.

He earned Great Lakes Hockey Conference honorable mention as a senior.

During his baseball career, Jeffers won four straight Copper Mountain Conference championships, three district championships, and a regional championship in 2023. He has been named to the All-Conference First Team three times and Pitcher of the Year in 2023.

He pitched the first perfect game in Jeffers baseball history against Ironwood on May 8 in a 4-0 win. He faced 18 batters and struck out 13 hitters.

He holds the career record in baseball for the most home runs with three. He is also on pace to set several season and career records as a pitcher.
