STANTON — Coldwell Banker Craig Heinonen opened the 2025 Twilight League baseball season on Thursday with a 4-1 win over Northern Driveline in Stanton.
In the eyes of Coldwell’s player-coach Ross Kinnunen, it was a complete-game win and a great way to start the year.
“We were going on all three cylinders,” he noted. “We had good pitching, we hit well, and played good defense. That was the key to victory tonight.”
Coldwell Banker opened the first with two runs. It started with a walk to second baseman Trevor Halonen and catcher Eric Anderson hit a double. They both came home on a Carson Turner single to the left side.
The Coldwell lineup added two more in the fourth with outfielders Buzz Rajala and Brady Turner scoring on a Cam Anderson single up the middle. It was now a 4-0 lead over Northern.
“Game ball goes to our starter Andrew Kinnunen,” noted Ross. “He struck out nine batters in his five innings of work. That obviously helped a lot.”
Northern avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth. A walk to first baseman Evan Larson eventually led him to come home on an error.
Carson Turner pitched the final two innings for Coldwell. He struck out four, and the game ended on a ground out to second.
“They pitched well,” noted Northern’s player-coach Evan Larson. “They kept us guessing all day at the plate, but the season is young. “We are fired up for the season, and we will only get better.”
